Highlights

  • The new Tata Safari is a practical SUV but not a 4x4.
  • It is offered in both six and seven seater configuration.
  • It is 63 mm longer than the Tata Harrier.

The new Tata Safari is finally here and the nameplate comes with a legacy. But the 2021 Tata Safari is essentially the six or seven seater version of the Harrier which we have known as the Gravitas and before that it was the Buzzard (if you remember) It's a practical SUV but not a four-wheel drive off-roader and so pricing becomes even more crucial for its prospects in our market. And we expect prices to start at ₹ 14 lakh for the base variant, going up to ₹ 20.50 lakh for the top-end trim.

The Tata Safari takes its design cues from the Harrier that are hard to miss but the overall presence is larger and more imposing

The new Tata Safari is underpinned by the Land Rover D8 derived Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture (OMEGARC) platform which also spawns the five-seater Harrier. Just like the Tata Harrier, even the Safari adorns the new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy, but will feature subtle design changes. For instance, the SUV gets a new front grille with the tri-arrow theme design. It is 63 mm longer than the Harrier, while its width and wheelbase will remain unaltered.
