- Affected models include over 3,000 bikes from 2014-2017
- Issue is with swingarm pivot pin bolt which may loosen itself
BMW Motorrad has issued yet another recall for a motorcycle model, this time for the BMW R Nine T. The recall is being issued for BMW R Nine T motorcycles manufactured between 2014 and 2017 and affects roughly 3,368 bikes in the US. The issue is with a swingarm pivot pin bolt that may loosen itself, increasing the chances of a crash. Right now, the recall is being issued in the US and there's no word if there are any other affected bikes in other parts of the world.

R Nine T swingarm pivot pin bolt issue on bikes in the US
The issue is due to a supplier production process error, and one or more bolts that connect the right side pivot pin to the frame may loosen. As a result, it can affect the handling and stability of the motorcycle, which increases the chance of a crash. BMW Motorrad will notify owners of the affected bikes in the US, and BMW dealers will clean and re-install the pivot pin bolts. Motorrad dealers will also torque the bolts to the correct tightening spec, as well as apply locking adhesive to the bolts - all free of charge. The recall for the BMW R Nine T is expected to begin from October 9, 2018.

This is yet another recall from BMW Motorrad, after a global issue with the German motorcycle manufacturer's bestselling BMW R1200GS and BMW R1200GS Adventure models. That recall initially originated in the US, and soon snowballed into a massive global recall, including India, where the affected bikes are being inspected for a front suspension fault and repaired if required. The R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure bikes have been the cause of many crashes globally due to a fault in the front fork triple clamp. So far, there is no word on if the BMW R Nine T's swingarm pivot pin faults are being reported elsewhere outside of the US.
