Intermot 2016: BMW Motorrad Shows The R NineT Pure And The R NineT Race

- Both these motorcycles are derivatives of the R nineT
- They have a 1,170cc engine, producing 110bhp and 119Nm
- BMW Motorrad should start its operations in India in a month's time
The craze for modern but retro themed motorcycles has seen an increase in the last few years and BMW Motorrad's response to that was the R nineT, a beautiful modern classic motorcycle that was well received and has become one of the more popular models from BMW Motorrad's portfolio. Last year, the company introduced the R nineT Scrambler and such was the response from enthusiasts that this year at Intermot, BMW Motorrad showcased two more versions of the R nineT continuing with the retro-styled theme.
(BMW R nineT Pure and Racer)The R nineT Racer is a modern take on the old-school half-fairing sports motorcycles design, which was popular in the 70s. One look at the motorcycle will make you go weak in the knees. The round headlamp embedded in the fairing, rear-set footpegs, a bum-stop on the seat and the low handlebars lend that gorgeous classic look to the motorcycle. The R nineT Pure, on the other hand, follows a minimalist design and gets retro-styled bits such as forged aluminium footrests and fork bridges.
The modern bits come in the form of a 1,170cc 'Boxer' engine which belts out 110bhp and 119Nm. It is Euro-4 compliant too as well. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and is shaft-driven instead of a regular chain drive. Both the motorcycles get a modular steel space frame, which allows the customer the flexibility to change the appearance of the motorcycle as per requirement. This is possible because the space frame consists of 3 separate components, which are the front main frame, the rear main frame and the removable passenger frame. Both the motorcycles come with ABS and ASC (automatic stability control, which is optional).
