Highlights
- At least 1 in 4 Himalayan motorcycles are sold in Karnataka
- Karnataka is the second largest market for Royal Enfield in India
- Royal Enfield plans to add 8 more dealerships in Karnataka this fiscal
While the Royal Enfield Himalayan is finding many takers across the country, India's IT capital 'Bengaluru' has taken the fancy of the adventure tourer a bit more than other cities. The bike maker recently revealed that at least one in four Himalayans are sold in Karnataka. So, out of the total 4000 units of the adventure tourer sold in the country, at least 1000 units were sold in the South Indian state itself. That is an impressive number and goes on to show the growing number of thrill seekers in the tech hub.
Royal Enfield embarked on a new journey when it introduced the Himalayan adventure tourer earlier this year, which also happens to be its most radical product in ages. Priced at Rs. 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore), the motorcycle is the most affordable adventure tourer you can get your hands on in the country and promises to take on all kinds of undulations with ease. Given the varied terrain around Bengaluru and the whole of Karnataka, adventure seekers do get to experience some mud sloshing off-roading without any inhibitions.
But why is the Himalayan turning so popular? Royal Enfield went back to the basics with the Himalayan adventure tourer. The motorcycle offers a simple and utilitarian design, torque friendly engine, essential information on the instrument cluster and none of the electronics. The approach has not only helped the bike maker price the bike more competitively but also put the rider back in control of the vehicle, which makes it so much fun. In terms of power, the Himalayan uses the newly developed 410cc single-cylinder long-stroke engine tuned to produce 24.5bhp of power and 32Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
Given the popularity in the state, Royal Enfield will also be expanding its presence across Karnataka and plans to add 8 more dealerships by the end of the current fiscal. The company currently operates out of 48 outlets in the state. In fact, Karnataka is the second largest market for RE in the country after Maharashtra, which also explains the company's expansion plans for the state.
