Tata Motors To Support Maharashtra Government In Setting Up Vehicle Scrapping Facility

- Tata to help set up Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility in Maharashtra
- The scrappage centre will have the capacity of recycling 35,000 vehicles
- Tata will set up the scrapping centre in association with a partner
Home-grown automaker, Tata Motors, has announced signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra, to help set up a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in the state. The MoU was signed at the Conference on Investment Opportunities in Highway, Transport and Logistics in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in presence of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. The proposed scrappage centre will have the capacity of recycling up to 35,000 vehicles a year for end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles.

Commenting on the partnership, Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors, said, "We are happy to partner with the Government of Maharashtra to support in setting up a scrapping facility in Maharashtra. Tata Motors and Maharashtra Government has signed the MoU through Industries, Energy and Labour Department, which will support in facilitating the necessary approvals for setting up of the scrappage centre. Tata says that the RVSF will be built in line with the rules and regulations of the Maharashtra Government, and the draft vehicle scrappage policy released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Tata Motors will set up the scrapping centre in association with a partner.

Tata says it will also help achieve safer and cleaner vehicles for consumers and a sustainable environment for all
The carmaker says that the upcoming scrappage facility will help offer benefits such as - low import bill for scrap and crude oil, job opportunities for MSMEs, the possibility of upside in new vehicle sales for OEMs, and low operation cost for vehicle owners. Tata says it will also help achieve safer and cleaner vehicles for consumers and a sustainable environment for all.

Tata Motors had earlier signed an MoU with the Government of Gujarat for setting up a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Ahmedabad and will continue to work with other Government bodies to more initiatives to support the vehicle scrappage policy.
