2023 Hero Xtreme 160R 4V Review: In Pictures

- Updated 4-valve engine offers quicker performance
- USD forks on top variant offer better dynamics
- More performance, better handling, new tech on Xtreme 160R 4V
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is the latest 160 cc premium commuter motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp, and will co-exist with its sibling, the two-valve Xtreme 160R. With a four-valve cylinder head in the updated engine, upside-down front forks on the top variant, as well as some cosmetic updates, and connected features, the Xtreme 160R 4V promises a lot.
Are the updates good enough to take a shot at the top spot in the segment, which has established rivals like the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and its ageing but recently updated sibling the Pulsar NS160? Here’s a look at the review through some pictures.

The dimensions and silhouette of the new Xtreme 160R 4V are more or less similar to the two-valve model, but there are subtle changes to give it fresh appeal. The headlight is sharper, and placed slightly lower, there are new graphics, a split seat set-up and new belly cowl with 4V graphics.

The updated engine with the four-valve cylinder head emits a throatier sound. In gear acceleration feels smoother and quicker and the engine has strong low- and mid-range performance. Overall performance seems to have become more eager, and the updated engine feels like it has stronger, and more athletic lungs.
Ride quality is pliant and comfortable, with the suspension set-up veering more towards the softer side for comfort, but without sacrificing dynamics. The two-valve Xtreme 160R has always been impressive in that department, with its light-footed dynamics and agility, and those qualities have become more prominent with the USD forks. There's better front-end feel and stability, under braking and while cornering.
The brakes work well, with decent stopping power, but dual-channel ABS, even if offered as an option, could have made the Xtreme 160R 4V and even more attractive proposition for those who seek better stopping power. Under hard braking, it’s also the front suspension with better damping which makes the bike feel more sure-footed and stable.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V now feels like a worthy contender to take the fight to established rivals. It’s easy to declare that the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V now makes the cut as a special motorcycle in the 160 cc segment. So, if you’re in the market for a 160 cc motorcycle, don’t make the mistake of overlooking the Xtreme 160R 4V!
