Tata Motors launches new Revotron Engine
With this as the forefront of their strategy, Tata Motors announced the launch of the Revotron Series, the next-generation petrol engine family that will power its future models. Tata maintains that the focus is more on the compact and the sedan segment.
The company unveiled the first petrol engine from this series - the turbocharged intercooled Multi-point Fuel Injected (MPFi) Petrol Engine, Revotron 1.2T. Tata Motors has worked closely with global engine consultant AVL (Austria) and partners like Bosch, Honeywell, Mahle and INA to bring in the latest technology for the new engine series. Tata Motors even said that inputs from Jaguar Land Rover were taken and a culmination of all these inputs is the Revotron 1.2T.
The engine has been manufactured to be light on weight and low on friction, delivering high performance and fuel economy. The Revotron series will include 3-and 4-cylinder petrol engines to offer superior performance as well as high fuel efficiency. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain will be capable of churning 84bhp and 140Nm of torques at as low as 1500-3500rpm.
The engine is light-weight and powerful, and Tata says that with a stiffened crankcase that minimizes Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH). The engine is refined with tuned intake and exhaust system for improved combustion noise that is further reduced with silent-steel oil pan and lower auxiliary system noise. With this Tata Motors also plans to bring in new and advanced transmission systems which will enhance the drive quality of the cars that roll out of the Tata Motors stable in the future.
The 1.2T is the first among the series of Revotron engines and it looks like the now-codenamed 'Falcon' will be the first cars to get this engine under its hood. It's a fresh beginning for Tata Motors this year and they promise saying that this year is all about new products and aggressive expansion. We look forward to a rejuvenated look as well as outlook!
