Car Sales September 2017: Mahindra Registers 16% Growth

- Mahindra sold a total of 53,663 vehicles last month
- Mahindra's passenger vehicle segment registered a growth of 23%
- Mahindra's commercial vehicle segment registered a growth of 19%
With the positive buying sentiment around the festive season, Mahindra & Mahindra registered an upward growth in September 2017 with both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles registering an increase in volumes. The Indian automaker's total sales for September 2017 stood at 53,663 units, a growth of 16 per cent as compared to 46,130 units sold during September 2016. Individually, the passenger vehicles business grew by 23 per cent, whereas the commercial vehicle segment saw an increase of 19 per cent over the same period last year. The company also said that this September also registered the highest ever monthly sales for the Scorpio SUV.

Commenting on the monthly performance, Mahindra & Mahindra - Presidentm Automotive Sector, Rajan Wadhera said, "The auto industry has witnessed a buoyant demand in September leading up to the festive season. This upsurge has been witnessed both in urban and rural markets. At Mahindra, we are very happy with our September 2017 performance with our passenger & commercial vehicle sales having grown at 23% & 19% respectively. We are particularly happy with the performance of our Scorpio brand which has had its highest monthly sales in September, since inception. Going forward, we are confident of sustaining a growth momentum for the rest of the festive season."
Mahindra's passenger vehicles segment that includes UVs, cars and vans sold 25,327 units in September this, as against 20,537 units sold during September 2016. Out of the total passenger vehicles, UVs still remain Mahindra's strong suit with 24,109 units sold last month. In fact, the UV segment grew by 26 per cent over the same period last year. Meanwhile, the cars and vans segment saw a decline of 8 per cent in sales with 1218 units moved out in September 2017.

On the other hand, Mahindra's CV space saw impressive growth with LCV less than 3.5 tonne registering a sale of 17,803 units in September 2017 with a growth of 16 per cent. LCVs larger than 3.5 tonne grew at a rate of 18 per cent with 514 units sold last month. In the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MHCV) segment, Mahindra sold 884 units, a growth of 143%, while three wheeler sales remained consistent at 5928 units, showing no increase in volumes.
Mahindra's total domestic sales stood at 50,456 units last month 2017, a growth of 19 per cent. Exports though saw a drop of 11 per cent for September 2017 with 3207 units sold.
