Kia Carens Three-Row MPV Makes Global Debut In India

- The Kia Carens will be launched in India in Q1 2022.
- It shares its paltform with the Kia Seltos.
- It looks sharp and is quite well loaded on the inside.
The Kia Carens has finally broken cover. Now the Carens name isn't new for Kia. The company used to sell a compact MPV named Carens in Korea between 1999 and 2018, however, globally it was more popularly known as Kia Rondo. The company has revived the Carens name again and India is the first market to get it. The Kia Carens is targeted at modern Indian families and so it has a fairly long footprint, a straight roofline and an upright stance for that quintessential MPV appeal.

It's based on the Seltos platform and the exterior gets an aggressive treatment with a split lighting setup, signature LED DRLs, sleek LED headlamps, and a muscular bumper with large air intakes. Then sporty alloy wheels, bold character lines and roof rails also build up on that robust appeal. The rear section gets sharp-looking wraparound LED taillamps connected by what looks like an LED strip. The sculpted tailgate and an aggressive rear bumper too complement the design pretty well.

On the inside, the design is quite minimalist and the dashboard with very few buttons and horizontal air-con vents looks very flush. We also get to see a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, and features like wireless charging, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with UVO connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, ambient mood lighting, spot lights, rear table trays and sunroof among others are on board. In terms of safety, it will come with six airbags and all-four disc brakes as standard along with other drive assist features like, electronic stability control, hill descent control, rollover mitigation and hill assist among others.

Now technical details of the new Kia Caren still haven't been shared, but we expect it to share its powertrain option with the Seltos. So it is likely to get a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine options. While six-speed manual transmission will be standard, the turbo petrol will be offered with the option of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and the diesel will be available with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
