Mahindra e2O to be Launched in European Markets Soon

Mahindra is all set to launch the e2O electric vehicle in the European markets soon. The company had launched the car in India in 2013 but clearly didn't do too well here. Considering that it sells even less than a 1000 units annually, it was time for a change in strategy.
Mahindra recently sent two e2Os to Europe for crash test purposes and they have returned to the country post that. There is no word on how the car has faired but clearly there is a loom of optimism in the air.
"The way electric vehicle technology is growing in Europe, we expect it to play an important role there. We are also looking at the opportunity to launch our electric vehicle there and expect to do so in next six months," Mahindra & Mahindra Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Pravin Shah told PTI.
Exuding confidence of making a mark in Europe, he said: "Our electric car quality meets the norms there and we are also entitled for support from the governments."
The e2O started as an NXR concept and from there we've seen a huge change. The European markets will be a good setting for a car like the e2O because the infrastructure for all-electric vehicles is already in place unlike India.
The e2O, though battery powered, is a good city car, for it has a top speed in the range of 80km/h and the acceleration is steadt thanks to the automatic gearbox, with a Boost feature that provides extra power when needed for quick overtaking. On a full charge it can go upto 100 km, though this will vary depending on road and traffic conditions.
It comes with features like reverse camera and a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Each car comes with an inbuilt GSM activated chip that allows the company to keep tabs on the performance and condition of each individual car. This also allows troubleshooting and any software related upgrades to be carried out remotely, without the car needing to be brought in to a workshop.
A full charge from empty will require about five hours, though a one-hour quick charge will give you about 25 per cent battery power. Mahindra is keen to enter the overseas market with a contender that might boost their sales especially when compared to India.
