The new electric scooter will share a lot of components with the Mahindra Gusto scooter, which Mahindra sold in 110 cc and 125 cc variants. The upcoming electric scooter will also be marketed under the Mahindra Two Wheelers umbrella, although Mahindra's other two-wheeler interests will remain separate entities - specifically Mahindra's stake takeover in Peugeot Motorcycles, and Classic Legends, under which Mahindra intends to revive the iconic Jawa and BSA brands.

Ather Energy is also developing the S340 electric scooter
Mahindra Two Wheelers isn't the only two-wheeler manufacturer dabbling in the electric scooter space. TVS is already working on an electric scooter, also based on an existing TVS scooter platform, the Jupiter. TVS is expected to launch its first electric scooter by the first half of 2018. Bengaluru-based Ather Energy is also working on an electric scooter which is also likely to be launched soon. Ather Energy received investments of Rs. 205 crore from India's largest two-wheeler company, Hero MotoCorp, in 2016. Ather Energy's first electric scooter will be the S340 and will also be launched by early 2018.
