Maruti Suzuki Baleno Gets a New 1.4-Litre Petrol Engine

That all being said, recently some new information has surfaced, according to which Maruti will be offering the Baleno with 1.4-litre engine as well. Now before you start assuming anything let us clarify that this engine will be used in the Baleno only for the South African market and not in India. Apparently it is the same engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan and the Ertiga MPV.
As you might already know, this particular 1.4-litre petrol engine churns out a maximum of 91bhp and a peak torque of 130Nm. For the South African market Maruti will also introduce the 5-speed manual gearbox and the 4-speed automatic transmission, both of which are also paired to the Ciaz and Ertiga in India. While there is still more information yet to come, but we can safely assume that the diesel version will use the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine in South Africa as the Indian model.

Currently the Indian version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, as mentioned earlier, is powered by a 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine producing 83bhp and 115Nm of peak torque and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine developing 74bhp and 190Nm of peak torque. What's more is that that company will also introduce a more powerful turbocharged 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine, capable of churning out 110bhp and develop 130 Nm of peak torque. While currently the transmission options offered with the Baleno includes both a 5-speed manual and a CVT unit, the BoosterJet is expected to be paired only with the 5-speed manual.
