Maruti Suzuki Sells Over 1 Lakh Units of the Ciaz

- Maruti Suzuki sold over 1 lakh units of the Ciaz in just 18 months
- The Ciaz has helped Maruti achieve 40% market share in its segment
- It is the only hybrid sedan in its segment
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, India's largest carmaker's popular mid-sized sedan attained the one lakh sales milestone recently. Launched in India in October 2014, Maruti Suzuki achieved the figure in cumulative sales for the Ciaz in the domestic market by June 2016 - in just 18 months.
R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki said, "...Ciaz is the largest selling sedan in the A3+ segment. It has enabled us to achieve a market share of 40% in the premium sedan segment. Success of Ciaz is very encouraging as it demonstrates customers' confidence in Maruti Suzuki and reinforces our commitment to offer premium products in the upper segments."
While that is most certainly a commendable feat, we must factor in Maruti Ciaz's primary rival, Honda City's numbers too. The new generation Honda City arrived in India in January, 2014, nearly 9 months before the Ciaz, and managed to retail more than 2 lakh units by June 2016. That accomplishment was aided by the fact that the City nameplate has been present in the market for nearly 18 years now. Considering that, the Ciaz, successor to the SX4, is definitely a solid rival to Honda's current best-seller.
As a matter of fact, the Ciaz has been the only Maruti Suzuki car to come anywhere near City's sales. The automaker's prior attempts a.k.a. the Baleno sedan and the SX4 were unable to even reach the
vicinity of Honda City's numbers despite the fact that both models saw some decent numbers in the initially. What further backs Ciaz's prospects is the fact that its monthly sales managed to cross 5,000 units in the first five months of 2016. Honda City's sales, however, dropped from 8,037 units in January, 2016 to 3,581 in June, 2016.

The key factors for that supported this achievement are the car's features, its design, spacious cabin, and best-in-class fuel efficiency of 28.09Km/l. It also gets SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology (diesel model) which has earned it the tag of being the only hybrid sedan in its segment. Furthermore, it also qualifies for an incentive of Rs.13,000 from the Government of India's FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles) initiative.
