Tata Tiago AMT Cabin Revealed In Latest Spy Images

- Tata Tiago AMT will go on sale in India by mid-2017
- The car will use the same AMT unit that does duty on the Zest AMT
- The F-Tronic AMT unit is sourced from Magneti Marelli
Tata Motors has been working on the automatic trim of the Tiago hatchback for some quite some time now. Slated to the launched later this year, some new spy shots of the Tata Tiago AMT's cabin have recently surfaced online, revealing the new gear lever, which has been picked up from the Tata Zest. Like the latter, the upcoming Tata Tiago AMT will also get the F-Tronic automated manual transmission (AMT) unit sourced from Magneti Marelli.

Now, Tata Motors was supposed to launch the Tiago AMT last year itself during the festive season but the carmaker decided to focus on the launch of its flagship model, Hexa, which was to become a make or break product for the company. In fact, Tata Motors' new subcompact sedan Kite 5, which is based in the Tiago is slated to be launched next month, before the Tiago AMT.

Tata Tiago AMT
Coming to the car itself, the cabin of the upcoming Tata Tiago AMT remains largely similar to the regular version with the only exception is the AMT gear lever. Similar to the one seen in the Zest, the Tiago gear shifter also appears to uses soft touch plastic with Neutral, Drive, Parking modes along with the manual mode. The Tiago also appears to get the Sport Mode as we can see the same S-marked button right behind the lever. Other controls and panels remain similar to what the regular Tiago gets.

The gearbox in the Tiago AMT will likely come mated to the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that churns out 83bhp and develops 114Nm of torque. We do hope that Tata Motors has calibrated the gearbox to match the power and torque of the engine for better low-end torque, which the company failed to achieve with the Nano or even the Zest diesel AMT for that matter.
Currently, the Tata Tiago is bringing in some great numbers for Tata Motors and seeing the growing demand for automatic models in smaller cars, the Tiago AMT could do wonders for the carmaker. Upon its launch, the car will go up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT and Renault Kwid AMT.
