The company sold 2,63,422 units of Alto during 2015-16 compared with 2,64,492 units in 2014-15. The next three positions also belong to the Indo-Japanese carmaker with the Swift DZire, Swift hatchback and WagonR taking the second, third and fourth place as the best-selling models. Country's best-selling compact sedan Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire accounted for 2,34,242 units last fiscal compared to 2,10,649 units sold in 2014-15.

On the other hand its hatchback counterpart, Swift continued to hold on to the third spot during the fiscal despite doing bad sales at 1,95,043 units compared to the previous fiscal's figures of 2,01,338 units. As for the company's tall boy hatchback Wagon R, the car clocked sale of 1,69,555 units retains the fourth position. The same time in the previous fiscal, the company sold 1,61,250 units of the hatchback.

Rival Hyundai Motors India on the other hand continued to be the closest competitor to Maruti by keeping its position strong at the fifth and sixth position with the Grand i10 and i20 respectively. The carmaker's top selling hatchback Grand i10 held on to the fifth sport by accounting for 1,26,181 units. Whereas, i20 stood at the sixth position with 1,04,841 unit sales during the 2015-16 fiscal. Although, Hyundai's entry-level hatchback, EON lost the seventh spot to another one of Maruti Suzuki's model, the Celerio, which clocked 87,428 units during the fiscal.

Popular SUV manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra's top selling product Bolero continues to be the only SUV in the list taking the eight spot with total unit sales of 81,559.
