BMW Motorrad India will announce the prices of the new-generation BMW S 1000 R motorcycle on June 15, 2021. The S 1000 R is based on the S 1000 RR and comes to India almost a couple of years after the new-gen S 1000 RR sportbike was launched. The S 1000 R uses the same engine, frame and swingarm as the RR. The design too has been updated significantly, with new body panels and a new LED headlight up front, with a DRL running across the unit, although the asymmetrical headlights on the old model had a lovely character that is missed on the new model.

The engine speed has reduced by 8 per cent and the fuel efficiency has gone up by 8 per cent too. The torque curve has been kept linear for better performance and ease of riding. The engine itself is now 5 kg lighter. The top speed of the motorcycle is over 250 kmph and the 0-100 kmph sprint takes a scant 3.2 seconds.
