- Mahindra is adopting a 58 MW captive solar plant in Maharashtra
- It'll quadruple M&M's renewable power share from 12% to 56% in the state
- The plant will be built, owned and operated by ReNew Sunlight Energy
Mahindra & Mahindra, has announced adopting a 58 MWp (Megawatt peak) captive solar plant in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra that is expected to generate about 100 million units of power annually beginning 2022. The company, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, says that this project is a big step towards the protection and revival of natural ecosystems. In fact, this will quadruple M&M's renewable power share from 12 per cent to 56 per cent across Maharashtra. The automaker began its journey to attain carbon neutrality with its first project of 0.06 MW at the Igatpuri plant and now with this captive solar plant, we will reach a capacity of 78 MWp. Mahindra states that this project will allow the company to make significant progress towards attaining carbon neutrality and Science-Based Targets by mitigating 79,000 tons of carbon emissions per year. To give you a perspective, this is equivalent to nurturing 3.7 million trees every year, or the same as providing a year's supply of power to about 20,650 Indian households.
