Mahindra Thar Bags Over 39,000 Bookings; Receives 200-250 Orders Per Day

- The Mahindra Thar received about 6000 bookings in January 2021
- The new Mahindra Thar registers about 250 orders every day
- The waiting period is about 5 months, going up to 8 months on select trim
The new-generation Mahindra Thar is a roaring success for the manufacturer and is witnessing high demand from the day of the launch. Now, Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that the all-new off-roader has received over 39,000 bookings since the model first went on sale on October 2, 2020. The model has been consistently raking in bookings and bagged over 6,000 bookings in January 2021 alone. Mahindra revealed the details in a media interaction during the FY2021 Q3 earning call and also divulged that the SUV receives an average of 200-250 bookings every day.

The plush and rugged interior is well put together and more usable, which has made the new Thar a popular choice, especially in the automatic version
In addition, Mahindra & Mahindra also revealed that about 45 per cent bookings have been made for the automatic variants of the new-generation Thar. That's certainly a big number and goes on to show the popularity that the new automatics have gathered and were introduced for the first time on the SUV. It also hints at more acceptability of the new Thar in urban cities and towns.
The high booking numbers are also interesting once you consider the high waiting period that the Thar has. The off-roader currently commands an average waiting period of about five months, depending on the engine, transmission, and variant combination. The delivery period is even higher going up to eight months in certain metros, according to certain dealerships. Back in December 2020, Mahindra did say that it was ramping up production at the plant to meet the strong demand for the off-roader.

The new Thar also received 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash tests
The new Mahindra Thar is offered with the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine options. Both engines are paired with manual and automatic transmissions and come with a host of features and off-roading capability. In fact, 4x4 is standard on the Thar. The SUV also managed to score four-stars in the Global NCAP safety ratings. The new Mahindra Thar is priced from Rs. 12.10 lakh, going up to Rs. 14.15 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
