Maruti Ciaz - Everything You Want To Know
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz (pronounced as Chi-aaz) is surely one of the most awaited vehicles of the year, which will replace the not-so-successful SX4 in the country. This will also be another attempt from Maruti to tap the bigger car segments, which has never been MSI's territory. We have seen how badly SX4, Vitara and Kizashi performed, possibly because people expect Maruti Suzuki cars to be more affordable. But, we have also seen how MSI managed to sell its failed cars in record numbers after they were re-launched in new avatar. The A-Star is the latest example, which after receiving a new design and a new name 'Celerio' is doing wonders for the company, with waiting period going up to 8 months. So, the company expects to do the same with the SX4 successor - Ciaz as well. Interestingly, the car received a great public response at its unveiling during the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.

The Japanese carmaker recently unveiled a more evolved and close-to-production version of the Ciaz in the form of Alivio at the Beijing Motor Show, which gives us a clearer idea of what to expect from the Ciaz.
Design
The Ciaz/Alivio has taken its design inspiration from the 'Suzuki Authentics Concept', which was unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. In terms of design, the Ciaz carries an entirely new look, when compared to the SX4. While the SX4 ws more masculine and bold, the Ciaz with sharp character lines and elegant surfaces looks more contemporary. Featuring a wide chrome grille and large wraparound headlmaps, the Ciaz represents Suzuki's new design language.
Engine and transmission options
Coming in both petrol and diesel engine options, the Ciaz will feature the 1.4-litre K-series petrol and the 1.3-litre multijet diesel unit. The 1.4-litre petrol mill is the same powering the Ertiga, but in the case of Ciaz, it might be tuned for more power. The petrol engine might be offered with both a five-speed manual gearbox and a CVT gearbox options. The diesel model of the mid-sized sedan will carry the same fiat sourced 1.3-litre multijet diesel unit, which also powers the SX4. And if rumours are to be believed, the top-end diesel model of the Ciaz might also get the 1.6-litre multi-jet diesel unit.
Dimensions
The Ciaz/Alivio concept measures 4545mm in length, 1475mm in height, 1730mm in width and has a large wheelbase of 2650mm. And we expect the production version of the Ciaz to carry the same dimensions, thus proving to be the biggest and most spacious car of its league. The high ground clearance and increased height will contribute to the ride quality of the new car.
Expected price
Rs 7 lakh to Rs 11 lakh

July 2014
