Tata H5X Concept SUV Christened As The 'Harrier'

- The Tata Harrier was first revealed as the H5X concept at Auto Expo 2018
- The Tata Harrier is underpinned by the new OMEGA platform
- Tata could showcase the production-ready Harrier by the end of 2018
Tata Motors has officially revealed that the production version of the H5X Concept will be called the 'Tata Harrier'. The name has been a long speculated one and brings the automaker's new flagship SUV one step closer to production. Tata Motors first unveiled the H5X concept at the Auto Expo earlier this year and will be positioned above the Nexon in the company's line-up. The production-spec Tata Harrier is expected to be revealed by the end of this year, while commercial sales will begin in the first quarter of 2019.

Speaking about the christening of the upcoming SUV, Tata Motors - President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Mayank Pareek said, "With Turnaround 2.0 into play, we are geared to win sustainably in the market. We are proudly speeding towards our next market introduction - 'Tata Harrier', yet another game changer, to offer our customers a product, that is not only exciting but that which will take our brand value to the next level. With legendary pedigree running through its veins, 'Tata Harrier' promises to shatter all current benchmarks and pave entirely new standards for SUVs in India. This is in line with our well-defined go-to-market strategy. We are excited to introduce the 'Tata Harrier' to our customers and are gearing up for the commercial launch in the first quarter of 2019."
Tata says the new Harrier nameplate draws inspiration from their thought, and has been defined as "a dominant beast imbued with endless stamina and strength. Gifted with unwavering instinct. Effortlessly conquers every challenge thrown its way." The Tata Harrier provides a glimpse of the future vehicles to come from the automaker with respect to styling, technology and performance capabilties. Tata has also confirmed that the all-new car will be a five seater model, although a seven-seater version cannot be ruled out.

The new Tata Harrier SUV will be based on the automaker's completely new Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) monocoque platform, while it is also first vehicle to sport the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. The new OMEGA architecture has been developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and is derived from Land Rover D8 architecture that currently underpins the Range Rover Evoque.
The Tata Harrier will also be the first vehicle from the Indian car maker to be styled under the 'IMPACT Design 2.0' philosophy. The concept version has been much appreciated for its refreshing and imposing design, and the production version is expected to carry most of these elements as well. The Harrier is expected to be a game changer for the automaker as it will take on a host of compact SUVs including the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Jeep Compass and the likes. The model is part of the company's Turnaround 2.0 strategy for new models and the new offering will be followed up with the 45X premium hatchback that also made its debut at the expo this year.

The Tata Harrier will draw power from the both petrol and diesel engine options, with the latter likely to be the 2.0-litre diesel shared with the Jeep Compass. The automaker has also begun a digital campaign for its upcoming offering and you can expect more details to come out in the following weeks leading up to the official reveal.
