Tata Nexon AMT Introduced With Mid-Level XM Variant; Prices Start At Rs. 7.50 Lakh

The Tata Nexon has seen massive popularity ever since its launch last year and the automaker made it more practical with the launch of the automatic variant earlier this year. The Tata Nexon AMT was introduced in the range-topping XZ trim, however, and now the company has launched the subcompact SUV in the more affordable XM variant. Available in both petrol and diesel options, the Tata Nexon AMT XMA petrol is priced at Rs. 7.50 lakh, while the diesel version is priced at Rs. 8.53 lakh (all-prices, ex-showroom Delhi). We had told you back in May this year that the XM variant is in the offing and will be introduced soon. With the launch, the Nexon AMT is now offered in two trims - XMA and XZA+.

Compared to the range-topping XZA variant, the Tata Nexon AMT XMA petrol is a about Rs. 2 lakh cheaper, while the diesel XMA variant is about Rs. 1.77 lakh. In addition, Tata Motors has also introduced an all-new "Ivory White" roof-color option with the mid-level automatic variant.

The XMA trim on the Tata Nexon misses out on a few features as compared to the XZA variant. The car gets follow-me-home headlamps, power tailgate, electrically adjustable ORVMs, remote central locking, ConnectNext infotainment system with steering mounted audio controls, four speakers, and wheel covers. The subcompact SUV misses out on projector headlamps with the LED DRLs, and diamond cut alloy wheels. In addition, dual front airbags and ABS are offered as standard on the model.

The Tata Nexon AMT XMA uses the same 6-speed automated manual transmission that the company calls HyprDrive. The auto gearbox also comes with the Smart Hill Assist feature and Crawl function. You also continue to get the segment first Multi-Drive modes - Eco, City and Sport.
The AMT unit is paired with the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol that produces 108 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel belts out 108 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. Nbers remain unchanged over their manual counterparts.

The more affordable Tata Nexon AMT variants will only help the subcompact SUV take on its biggest rival, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza AMT. The XMA diesel is priced identical to the base Brezza AMT, while the XZA+ remains cheaper than the Brezza ZDi automatic. The Nexon AMT also competes with the Ford EcoSport automatic in the segment.
