Tata Nexon May Come With New 1.5-Litre Diesel Engine

The Tata Nexon will reportedly be equipped with Tata's all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine, with the car set to be launched by the end of this year. This differs from earlier reports which claimed that the sub-compact SUV will be powered by a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced MultiJet diesel unit.
The production-ready version of the Tata Nexon was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo and featured the new 1.5-litre diesel engine. This punchy unit produces 108bhp of power and 260Nm of torque and is likely to be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
On the other hand, the petrol variant of the sub-compact SUV is likely to come with the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron 1.2T engine, which also does duty on the Tata Zest. This mill has a power output of 89bhp and 140Nm of torque and will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The production version of the Tata Nexon retains most of the exterior design characteristics of the concept which was showcased at the previous Auto Expo in 2014. However, one can make out slight changes in the car's front fascia with a new set of head-lamps and a redesigned bumper.
The sub-compact SUV is based on the same X1 platform which is used in the Zest sub-compact sedan and Bolt hatchback. The Nexon is likely to be quite generous in terms of interior space since it measures a healthy 3,990mm in length and is well-equipped for Indian roads with a high ground clearance of 200mm.
The Tata Nexon is likely to be priced in the Rs. 6 - 11 lakh range and will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
