Yamaha Aerox 155: All You Need To Know

- 2021 Yamaha Aerox launched in India at a price of Rs. 1.29 lakh
- First maxi-scooter to be launched from Yamaha in India
- Uses the same engine as the R15 V4 but in a different state of tune
Not only did Yamaha launch the R15 V4 in India, but the company also took the wraps off the Aerox 155 maxi-scooter and launched it in India, with prices starting at Rs. 129,500 for the standard model and Rs. 130,500 (ex-showroom). This is the first instance of Yamaha launching a maxi-scooter in India. And if we are to go by its specifications, then it is currently one of the most powerful scooters on sale in India. Deliveries of the scooter will begin in late September. In India, it will go up against the Piaggio SXR 160.

Design

The Yamaha Aerox is an international model, on sale in other Asian countries as well. It gets an under-bone design, with a spine section as well. It gets a bulbous front end, with big LED headlights on the Afront apron along with LED daytime running lights as well. There is a typical maxi-scooter flavour on offer and the scooter is likely to offer commanding presence on the road. The profile and the rear section of the scooter look good too and the rear gets an LED taillight, along with a sporty exhaust and stylish graphics.

Engine

The Aerox 155 gets the same 155 cc engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) as the R15. The motor is paired to a CVT transmission. The four-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve engine makes 14.7 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 13.9 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine makes about 4 bhp less compared to the R15 V4.0. The engine gets a new cylinder head and a compact combustion chamber to achieve a higher compression ratio, boosting combustion efficiency. The motor uses the same lightweight forged piston with DiASil coating for less friction.

Chassis & Cycle Parts

(The Aerox 155 gets an underbone design with a prominent spine section)
The chassis on the new Yamaha Aerox 155 gets a trail that is 5 mm longer for enhanced straight-line stability. This allows for a more motorcycle-like feel, the company says, while retaining the scooter's handling capabilities. The scooter uses a 26 mm telescopic front suspension, while the rear gets dual shock absorbers with the mounting angle increased by 2-degrees for improved pillion comfort. Braking performance comes from a 230 mm disc brake at the front with ABS.
Features

The Aerox 155 gets equipped with Smart Motor Generator System, automatic start/stop system, negative LCD instrument console with MID unit that showcases a speedometer, RPM, VVA indicator and Y-Connect App Phone notifications, maintenance recommendations, last parked location, fuel consumption, malfunction notification, revs dashboard, and so on. There's also a two-step seat, optional USB charger and 24.5 litres of under-seat storage.
