Suzuki currently owns 56 per cent of Maruti Suzuki India - India's biggest automaker. The Japanese automaker expects t source the majority of its growth from India, which is projected to become the third-biggest market in the world after China and the US by 2020.
Asked about the ban on registration of diesel vehicles with an engine capacity of 2000cc and above in Delhi, Suzuki said, "Diesel or gasoline (petrol), rather than driving the car into these categories, you really have to think of how to reduce the overall exhaust gas from automobile. That's what we are thinking at the manufacturers side."
The diesel ban in Delhi, however, has had the most severe effect on Toyota and Mercedes-Benz. In fact, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has suffered a seven per cent loss in sales of the premium Fortuner and Innova models in the Delhi-NCR region.
