Two-Wheeler Sales February 2022: TVS Motor Company Reports Decline Of 11 Per Cent In Domestic Sales

- TVS Motor Company's total sales stood at 281,714 units in February 2022
- Motorcycle sales stood at 143,523 units, up by 5% year-on-year
- Scooter sales were down by 10.29% at 86,616 units units last month
TVS Motor Company reported its sales for February 2022 and the company's total sales (including two-wheelers and three-wheelers) stood at 281,714 units as against 297,747 units sold in February 2021, registering a decline of 5.69 per cent. The company's total two-wheeler sales stood at 267,625 units in February 2022, as opposed to 284,581 units during the same period last year, witnessing a drop of 6 per cent in year-on-year volumes. Meanwhile, TVS' domestic two-wheeler sales declined by 11 per cent at 173,198 units in February 2022, as opposed to 195,145 units in February 2021.

TVS says the semiconductor shortage has affected the sale of its premium motorcycles
TVS further reported that motorcycle sales improved by 5 per cent last month at 143,523 units, from 137,259 units during the same month last year. They were also the bigger contributors when compared to scooters with 86,616 units sold last month. Scooter sales though declined by 10.29 per cent when compared to 95,525 units sold in February last year. The manufacturer said that the shortage in supply of semiconductors affected the production and sales of premium two-wheelers in its portfolio. However, TVS said it was optimistic about the supply improving in the coming months.

With respect to exports, TVS shipped 107,574 units last month, registering a growth of 6 per cent year-on-year, when compared to 101,789 units exported in February 2021. Two-wheeler exports improved by 6 per cent at 94,427 units in February 2022, from 89,436 units during the same period last year. Lastly, three-wheeler sales improved by 7 per cent to 14,089 units last month, from 13,166 units a year before. The improvement in sales does emerge as a sign of recovery with the three-wheeler sector being one of the most affected during the pandemic.
