Talking about the landmark achievement, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, "India is the fastest growing economy in the world and one of the most important markets for Honda. With this vision of growth, today we have achieved a new milestone for our business in India. The journey to the 28 million milestone has been phenomenal. We are deeply humbled by the faith and trust that our customers have reposed in brand Honda. We thank our valued customers, business partners, associates, and all our colleagues at Honda for this remarkable feat."

As far as market share is concerned, Honda now owns 26 per cent of the Indian Two-Wheeler industry at the end of the first half of FY 2016-17. It was also the highest volume gainer in the industry with over 5, 02,726 units sold, which is a massive 43 per cent of new two-wheelers sold. The company grew at an impressive 24 per cent as compared to the industry growth of 13 per cent.
One of the major reasons is the fact that Honda is operating at full capacity at all of its four manufacturing plants in India. The combined output of all the four plants is a whopping 5.8 million units per annum. The company has close to 4,800 sales outlets across the country and it is planning to add another 500 outlets before March 2017. There will be special emphasis on semi-urban and rural areas as well.
