- The micro SUV is underpinned by the ALFA-ARC platform.
The new Tata Punch is all set to go on sale in India on October 18, 2021. It will be the smallest and most affordable SUV from the house of Tata Motors, which will be positioned below the Nexon subcompact SUV in the line-up. Bookings for the car are already open with a token amount of Rs. 21,000. The Indian carmaker has already revealed the micro SUV, and we have a fair idea about its variants, features and specifications. However, what remains unknown are its prices, which will be announced at the launch. We expect it to be priced from Rs. 5 lakh, going up to Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Once launched, the Tata Punch will rival the Mahindra KUV100, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The Punch is the third car from Tata Motors to receive a 5-star safety rating for adult protection in the Global NCAP crash test after the Nexon and the Altroz. It's the first SUV to be built on the ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform.
The Tata Punch will be available in four variants - Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The carmaker will offer the mini SUV in six colour options - Orcus White, Tornado Blue, Calypso Red, Meteor Bronze, Atomic Orange, Tropical Mist, and Daytona Grey. Dual-tone colours are reserved for the top-spec models.

Visually, the Tata Punch gets an aggressive front end sporting a signature split lighting design in line with its elder siblings - the Harrier and the Safari. It comes with a range of premium features such as projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillamps and beefy bumper, underbody and side cladding, faux roof rails and sporty alloy wheels. On the inside, the SUV gets a dual-tone interior, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, premium upholstery with a tri-arrow design, a 7-inch instrument panel, flat-bottom steering wheel, and a push start-stop button.

There's also an optional Tata's iRA connectivity suite on offer for the top-end Creative variant. As for safety, the micro SUV comes equipped with dual-airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD and an industry-first brake sway control. The top-spec models also get a reverse-parking camera.

The Tata Punch is based on the brand's Impact 2.0 design language
Under the hood, the Tata Punch gets a tried and tested 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine with Dyna-Pro technology. The motor is tuned to make 84 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm at 3300 rpm. It is the same engine that also powers the Tiago and Altroz. The motor comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an optional AMT unit.
