Highlights

  • TVS files trademark for RTR 165 RP, and TVS RP Race Performance
  • Race Performance is expected to be a sub-brand of the Apache series
  • More power, better kit, and sportier performance expected from RP series

TVS Motor Company has trademarked a new name which will be introduced in production form as the new TVS Apache RTR 165 RP, with RP standing for Race Performance. Only recently, TVS introduced the TVS Apache RR 310 Built to Order with performance kits, and the Race Performance variant is expected to be a new performance-based sub-brand of the Apache series motorcycles from TVS. Going by the 165 moniker, the new RP variant may get a minor bump in engine displacement, and also get more performance than the standard TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is currently the most powerful motorcycle in its class. With a displacement bump, and new features on the RP variant, the new bike is expected to be even more performance-oriented.

So far, there's no clarity on what the updates will be on the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP, but going by the name, a slightly bigger engine is imminent, as is more performance. Also expected are riding modes, which are already offered on the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, and even on the TVS NTorq 125. With TVS Motor Company's Built to Order vertical announced with the new TVS Apache RR 310, we won't be surprised if TVS introduces adjustable front forks on the new Apache RTR 165 RP.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V co-exists with the Apache 180 in the brand's line-up. With the new RTR 165 RP, it's still not clear how the different models in the Apache series will be positioned going forward.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V currently is the most powerful motorcycle in its class. The 160 cc, single-cylinder, four-valve engine has been tuned to produce 17.4 bhp at 9,250 rpm and 14.73 Nm of peak torque at 7,250 rpm. With the 165 RP, TVS is expected to offer even more performance and acceleration, with updated engine internals, and more features, like the TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity and full race metrics offered on an updated instrument console. More details are expected to be announced soon, when TVS introduces the new Apache RTR 165 RP.
