TVS, BMW Motorrad Announce Joint Development Of EVs

- First EV product is expected to be unveiled within the next 24 months
- TVS and BMW Motorrad have a partnership since April 2013
- TVS manufactures the BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS bikes in India
TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad have announced that the two partners are extending and expanding their long-term partnership with the joint development of new platforms and future technologies, including electric vehicles. According to the announcement, TVS Motor Company's scope will include the design and development of future BMW Motorrad products, and under the enhanced cooperation, both companies have identified a range of products and technologies, a statement from TVS said. BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company will develop common platforms by mutually tapping the emerging technologies in the future mobility space, the announcement said.

The BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS are manufactured by TVS Motor Company in India. These models are sold in India, as well as in overseas markets around the world.
The statement added that exclusive products for both companies will be developed on these common platforms, and the companies will retail their products globally. TVS Motor Company will give its own inputs, with its engineering prowess in design, manufacturing and supply chain capabilities, the statement said. The first product, expected to be a common platform for an electric two-wheeler, will be showcased in the next 24 months.

The TVS Apache RR 310 is also based on the common platform shared with BMW Motorrad.

The successful partnership between the two brands to develop the BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS has led to extending the cooperation to develop future technologies and a new EV platform.
TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad signed a long-term strategic partnership in April 2013 to manufacture sub-500 cc motorcycles. Under this partnership, TVS has been manufacturing the BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS at its manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The common platform also has given birth to TVS Motor Company's flagship product, the TVS Apache RR 310. These three products have over 1,00,000 customers in all leading markets around the world, like the EU, USA, Japan, China and India. The success of this cooperation has resulted in extending the partnership to include future technologies and to develop an all-new electric vehicle platform. TVS Motor Company is India's third-largest two-wheeler manufacturer, after Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto, and the sconed highest exporter of two-wheelers from India after Bajaj Auto.
