Elon Musk Announces Bipedal Tesla Bot

Tesla is moving beyond cars and renewable energy and has shown an intent to flex its skills in artificial intelligence something it has signalled with its AI day event. At the event, it has announced the Tesla bot, a bipedal robot that is being designed to be mechanical in nature to handle physical tasks that can be deemed dangerous for humans. In a way, it has been inspired by science fiction from the work of Isaac Asimov in features like iRobot and Bicentennial Man. 

"Develop the next generation of automation, including a general-purpose, bi-pedal, humanoid robot capable of performing tasks that are unsafe, repetitive or boring. We're seeking mechanical, electrical, controls and software engineers to help us leverage our AI expertise beyond our vehicle fleet," Tesla said in the official post on its AI page.

This robot which Musk has said will be called Optimus will be built sometime next year. It will be 5 feet 8 inches tall in height and 57 kg in weight. It will be designed to handle tasks that are boring, unsafe or repetitive. At its AI day event, Musk mostly talked about AI capabilities and then expanded into the robot which will leverage Tesla's expertise in the space and its manufacturing and robotics technology which was developed for designing, building and operating the Gigafactories. 

The company showed off a mannequin version which wasn't operational but the face will have a screen instead. "I think essentially in the future, physical work will be a choice, if if you want to do it you can," Musk said.
