Highlights
- The stunt rider wasn't wearing a helmet when the accident occurred
- Harris was a professional motorcycle racer
- It was Harris' first role as a stunt rider for a film
Stunt rider and racer Joi 'SJ' Harris was killed while performing a stunt for the film "Deadpool 2" in Vancouver, Canada. Harris was a professional AMA racer and was performing as a stunt double for actor Zazie Beetz who plays Domino in the upcoming movie. She lost control of the motorcycle she was riding, before crashing through a glass window on a studio set. It was Harris' first time as a stunt performer, and had joined the production only a week before the accident. Harris was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred, since the character in the movie she was doubling for, did not wear a helmet.
The production of "Deadpool 2" was halted immediately after the accident, but 48 hours later, production is set to begin again. "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds expressed his grief at the incident on social media. "Today, we tragically lost a member of our crew while filming Deadpool. We're heartbroken, shocked and devastated... but recognise nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel at this moment. My heart pours out to them - along with each and every person she touched in this world."
