Shillong will fine motorists for wrong use of hazard lights.

Hazard lights are also used to alert other drivers about a breakdown in a vehicle pulled over to the halt lane or by the side of the road and also if the vehicle is moving very slowly due to any breakdown issue. However, some people turn their hazard lights on at a crossing to indicate they want to go straight or also when it starts pouring. The hazard lights should also be turned on if you abruptly stop in a hazardous position which people generally don't follow. Drivers who use their hazard lights improperly are subject to a fine under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act. So, anyone in India using hazard lights wrongfully on any road can be fined under the Motor Vehicle Act, not just those driving in Shillong.

In Shillong, for the first time the fine will be Rs. 100, and for repeated mistakes it will go up to Rs. 300. Even the two-wheeler riders often make mistakes and use hand gestures as signal when they turn, which is also not the right way of indication.
