Highlights

  • Scram 440 sales were halted in April
  • Powered by larger 440 cc engine rated by 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm
  • Scram 440 is the successor to the Scram 411

The Royal Enfield Scram 440 is the successor to the Scram 411, and the motorcycle was showcased for the first time at last year’s Royal Enfield MotoVerse event. Launched in January 2025, it featured an updated motor with higher displacement, a 6-speed gearbox, new colourways, alloy wheels and some more. While the motorcycle seemed to be a good replacement to the Scram 411, issues started to crop up with the motorcycle post its launch with regards to starting trouble.

According to reports, the motor would stall mid-ride and refuse to crank back up, and in some cases, the engine wouldn’t start after being turned off. The component responsible for the malfunction is related to the ignition system with the magneto assembly and the corresponding woodruff key, which keeps the assembly locked in place. Since the affected units of the Scram 440 accounted for just 2 per cent, in order to avoid inconvenience to buyers, Royal Enfield imposed a temporary halt on the sales of the Scram 440 until the issues are resolved.

Now, it seems that Royal Enfield has addressed the issue as dealerships have resumed the test ride and bookings for the Scram 440. While an official communication from the brand is yet to be sent out, the motorcycle is reportedly clear of any issues, and the previous unsold lot of the motorcycle was sent back to the factory for rectification.
