All cab aggregators and delivery service providers in Delhi city will have to ensure that 50 per cent of all new two-wheelers and 25 per cent of all new four-wheelers added to their fleet are electric by March 2023.

The Kejriwal-led Delhi government has directed all cab aggregators and delivery service providers in the city to ensure that 50 per cent of all new two-wheelers and 25 per cent of all new four-wheelers to their fleet are electric by March 2023. The Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot took to Twitter to announce another first of its kind initiative for EVs, which is said to provide the necessary push to the aggregator industry to become environment friendly. The notification will be issued once the process of evaluating objections is completed after 60 days period, said Gahlot on Saturday.

He said on Twitter, "Another first for Delhi in EVs-aggregators and delivery service providers to ensure that 50% of all new 2 wheelers and 25% of all new 4 wheelers are electric by March 2023. Notification is to be issued once the process of evaluating objections is completed at end of 60 days period. Soon Transport Department shall hold consultations with all stakeholders to finalise the modalities."

The draft notification is yet to be released, and soon will be put up in the public domain through the Delhi government's website. The government will seek comments from people for about 60 days. Subsequently, it will be reviewed and will be notified for implementation with modifications, if any.

As per the draft aggregators policy, 10 per cent of new two-wheelers and 5 per cent of new four-wheelers will have to be EVs within three months of notification of the final policy. Subsequently, 50 per cent of all new two-wheelers and 25 per cent of all new four-wheelers taken by aggregators and delivery services will have to be electric by March 2023.

Gahlot had previously urged commercial vehicle owners to convert half of their fleets to electric by 2023. The minister also urged CV owners to move from conventional to fully electric vehicle fleets under the 'Switch Delhi' campaign by 2025.

The Delhi government has reportedly registered 130,544 EVs as of Saturday, which is the second-highest among all states and UTs. Moreover, a total of 9,540 EVs vehicles were sold in Delhi during the September-November quarter. Of this, September saw the sale of 2,873 EVs, while 3,275 EVs were sold in October and 3,392 in November.
