Highlights

Mahindra and Mahindra, the home-grown auto major has apparently updated the base variant of its popular SUV - XUV500, with new features. According to the carmaker's website, the W4 and W6 variants of the Mahindra XUV500 will now come with a new 6-inch monochrome infotainment system similar to the one we saw in the new Mahindra KUV100.

One cannot deny the fact that the automotive industry is getting more and more competitive today. To get an upper hand over its competitors, carmakers are introducing new segment first features in their products right from the base variant itself. Indian SUV market leader, Mahindra is known for using this strategy ever quite often, especially in recent times. We saw the introduction of ABS and airbags in base variants of TUV300, standardisation of ABS with EBD across all variants in KUV100 and now an infotainment system in the base variants of the XUV500.

If you ask us, with this new strategy, Mahindra is simply making a statement that customers who choose Mahindra products get some or the other value addition, irrespective of the variants they choose. The previous model of the W4 and W6 variants of the XUV500 used to come with a single LCD unit, whereas now the new 6-inch monochrome infotainment system that comes with features like USB, Bluetooth audio, hands-free calling & iPod connectivity + CD, which were earlier offered with the W6 variant alone.

Apart from these, rest all features offered with the XUV500 remain unchanged like the projector headlamps with light guides, micro hybrid technology, airbags and ABS with EBD. In fact, even the higher W8 and W10 variants continue to offer the same 7-inch colour touchscreen infotainment display with GPS, USB (audio / video), Bluetooth audio, hands-free calling, iPod connectivity, a picture viewer and configurable wallpaper.

The W4 and W6 variants come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The XUV500 W4 variant is currently offered at a price of Rs. 11.50 lakh, while the W6 variant comes at Rs. 12.70 lakh with the top-of-the-line W10 AWD AT priced at Rs. 17.23 lakh, (All prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).
