The Nissan GT-R excels at everything it does and has yet again added another feather to its hat. This time, the GT-R has achieved the Guinness World Record for the fastest ever drift at a special event at the Fujairah International Airport, UAE. The specially tuned 2016 Nissan GT-R managed to break the drift record with a speed of 304.96 km/h and at a 30-degree angle. Japanese drift champion and title holder for the Japanese drifting series, Masato Kawabata was behind the wheel and beat former Polish record holder Jakub Przygonski.

Just to give you perspective on how big the record is, Przygonski's previous record for the fastest drift was 217 km/h. However, achieving the feat did mean special changes to the Nissan GT-R. Power was boosted to 1380hp from the same 3.8-litre V6 engine. If that isn't a mind boggling figure, all that power was sent only to the rear wheels, which explains why this GT-R likes to stick its tail out. The tuning and upgrades were done as part of a special collaboration between Nissan's performance division Nismo and GReddy Trust. The car was extensively tested at Japan's Fuji Speedway facility with Masato Kawabata.

Agility was a primary criteria when developing the specially tuned Nissan GT-R, while maintaining stability and confident handling characteristics, the company said in a statement. Talking about the location, the Fujairah International Airport offers a 3 km long airstrip that deemed long enough for the stunt to be carried out.

It couldn't be a better time for GT-R fans globally and more so, for the ones in India with the flagship offering from Nissan finally landing on Indian shores by September this year. Brought in as a CBU, the outlandish yet practical supercar is bound to find takers with the GT-R already being a popular offering amidst enthusiasts. The stock GT-R though only produces 554bhp and 632Nm of torque, quite humbling figures when compared to the drift tuned version.
