Highlights

Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest carmaker, has become the latest manufacturer to suspend manufacturing operations in Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine. The company cited logistical issues stemming from the sanctions imposed on Russia as a reason to suspend operations at its Kaluga van manufacturing facility.

In a statement, the company said, “Given the rapid daily increase in cross sanctions and logistical difficulties, Stellantis has suspended its manufacturing operations in Kaluga to ensure full compliance with all cross sanctions and to protect its employees.”

As per a Reuters report, the carmaker had already suspended all import and export of vehicles from Russia following the invasion of Ukraine along with moving its production bases for vehicles to other sites in Western Europe. The company's Kaluga plant had meanwhile continued to produce vans for the Russian market.

Prior to the suspensions, the brand held a roughly 1 percent market share in the country manufacturing and retailing models from the Jeep, Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat and Opel brands.

Stellantis joins manufacturers such as Ford, Volvo, Toyota, General Motors, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, the VW Group and Renault in suspending all production activities in the country. Since Russian troops first crossed into Ukraine in late February more than 400 companies including non-automotive firms have announced a suspension or pull-out from Russia.
