Highlights

  • The Volvo S60 Polestar is the first Polestar model in India
  • The 2017 Volvo S60 Polestar is 20 Kg lighter than the older model
  • It is powered by a 2 litre motor that develops 362 bhp and 470 Nm torque

Volvo S60 Polestar has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 52.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Polestar, Volvo's performance arm, is akin Mercedes-Benz's AMG and BMW's M. It must be noted that this is the first time that the Swedish carmaker has introduced a Polestar model in India and having driven the car, we really hope its ilk make their way to the country. The Volvo S60 Polestar is an addition to the existing S60 model range that includes the standard sedan and Cross Country versions. As far as the Volvo S60 Polestar's competition goes, it will take on the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C43.

While the old S60 Polestar came powered by an in-line 6 motor developing nearly 340 bhp, the car's 2017 iteration gets a downsized 2-litre engine with four cylinders. The new engine makes 362 bhp and a maximum torque of 470 Nm - massive numbers for a sedan in our opinion. Moving on, the engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission unit with paddle shifters. It also gets bigger air intake, a larger turbo, and electronically controlled air flaps that results in improved performance. The S60 Polestar, Volvo India's fastest car ever, completes the 0-100 kmph sprint in a mere 4.7 seconds and gets an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kmph.

The suspension of the car is now 80 per cent stiffer than the standard S60 and it gets pure carbon fibre strut braces at the front for improved steering feel and controls. The front bumper induces 31 kg downforce at 250 kmph and 15 kg at the rear with the spoiler as well. For safety, the Volvo S60 Polestar gets dual front airbags, passenger airbags and SIPS airbags along with whiplash protection for the front seat, ISOFIX mounts, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and more.

The 2017 Volvo S60 Polestar is 20 kg lighter than the old model, thanks to the smaller engine combined with the use of lightweight material. Other updates include larger brakes, 20-inch Polestar alloy wheels, and cosmetic updates like the R-Design treatment and signature blue paint scheme. Up front, the revised grille and bumper comes with glossy black treatment. At the rear, it gets the 'Polestar' badging.

Inside, the 2017 S60 Polestar gets sports seats in the front row, carbon-fibre inserts and sporty leather upholstery, metal foot pedals, carbon fibre treatment for the centre console, and an infotainment display at the centre of the dashboard. The car also gets a new chrome-accented gear lever with 'Polestar' branding.
