Elon Musk Drives The Tesla Cybertruck Around Los Angeles; Bangs Into A Traffic Pylon

The Tesla Cybertruck has been garnering a lot of attention ever since it was first unveiled last month. Right from the unconventional design, the shattered bulletproof glass with balls of steel; over 250,000 reservations within days, and the Cybertruck is already one of the most talked-about launches of 2022. It was then a pleasant surprise for the residents of the city of Los Angeles, US, to see Tesla CEO Elon Musk take the pick-up out for a spin earlier this week. The CEO was spotted driving the electric pick-up truck himself, providing a good look at the model and its proportions in the real world. Interestingly, he also managed to bang into a traffic pylon as he was seen exiting the restaurant premises.

It is likely that Musk didn't see the pylon since it was the rear tyre that ran over it. That being said, it does beg us to question if the Cybertruck has blind spots far too many. More so, since the prototype does not feature outside rearview mirrors, apart from windscreen wipers, conventional headlights and brake lights, all of which are required to make the model street legal. However, the California law allows prototypes being tested on manufacturer license plates to run without necessarily meeting the US federal motor vehicle safety standards.

This is not the first time though the Tesla Cybertruck was spotted on public roads since its unveiling on November 21, 2019. However, this is the first time that Musk was seen driving the upcoming model. Considering its massive size and design, it would be hard to miss one on open roads.

The Tesla Cybertruck boasts of some very interesting specifications including a 0-100 kmph time of 2.9 seconds. The electric offering will be offered in three options - a single motor RWD version with a range of over 402 km, a dual-motor AWD version with a range of over 482 km, and a top-spec tri-motor AWD version with a range of over 805 km. The electric car maker opened bookings immediately after the unveiling and potential buyers have the option to reserve any of the three versions priced from $39,900 to $69,900. Tesla plans to start production of the Cybertruck by late-2021.
