  • He could be heading towards Red Bull Powertrains

Honda's F1 boss Masashi Yamamoto who was seen at the podium of the recently concluded US GP at COTA has revealed that he is considering a change of career after Honda leaves F1 at the end of the year. He explicitly revealed that he wouldn't be involved alongside the management and marketing teams from Honda as it will only provide engineering support to the newly formed Red Bull Powertrains.

"The first thing we focus on anyway is winning the title," Yamamoto told Formule 1 magazine, as quoted by grandpx.news.

"That has priority. Other than that, we don't talk about personal moves, although I am considering a few things. I personally think it is disappointing that we are withdrawing," he said hinting at a shift to Red Bull.

Yamamoto also even recently hinted that Honda may return to F1 in 2026 when there is a new engine formula that will be based on a combination of a new emissions-free biofuel and electrical hybrid element. But this chatter was squashed by Honda's PR team.

Yamamoto revealed he understood why Honda withdrew from F1 because of its sustainability efforts.

"At the same time, we at Honda Racing understand that Honda as an automaker must commit to becoming carbon neutral. That process must be accelerated, hence this decision. From Honda's point of view, the end of this year is the end of the project," he said

"2022 is a transition period for Red Bull, with people from Honda sticking around to help. The easiest way to explain it is that everyone from the management, like myself and the marketing department, will be gone. As a brand, Honda will no longer be visibly present," he elaborated.
