New Audi Q5 PHEV 1

Q5 PHEV features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 25.9 kWh battery and a gearbox-integrated electric motor.

Sticking with the powertrain, both PHEV systems pair the electrical hardware with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine to develop a cumulative 295 bhp or a more potent 362 bhp. The petrol engine by itself pushes out 248 bhp. Quattro all-wheel drive is standard. In terms of performance, Audi claims a 0-100 kmph time of 6.2 seconds for the 295 bhp variant, with the more powerful model achieving the same in 5.1 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 kmph for both variants.

The PHEV powertrain gets two operating modes – EV and Hybrid, with the former prioritising the use of the charge in the battery before switching to the petrol powerplant as the charge hits zero. The hybrid mode, meanwhile, allows users to pre-select a minimum state of charge for the battery, with the vehicle then alternating between petrol and electric to ensure the minimum level of charge is maintained.

New Audi Q5 PHEV 2

Audi says that the Q5 & Q5 Sportback PHEVs support up to 11 kW AC charging, with a full charge from empty taking about 2.5 hours.

As with other PHEVs, the new Q5 and Q5 Sportback PHEVs get regenerative braking. The system features three levels of retardation selected via the steering-mounted paddle shifters. The battery pack also supports up to 11 kW of AC charging with a 0-100 per cent charge taking around 2.5 hours.

New Audi Q5 PHEV 4

PHEV powertrain features an electric motor integrated into the gearbox; battery sits behind the rear axle; quattro all-wheel drive is standard.

Powertrain aside, the new Q5 PHEV SUV and Sportback also get an upgraded feature list over the standard internal combustion SUV already on sale in global markets. Audi says that in the base tune, the Q5 PHEV offers three-zone climate control as standard, along with S sport suspension. Move to the more powerful 362 bhp units, and these features are further complemented by Audi’s LED headlight plus, LED taillight pro, 19-inch alloy wheels, sportier S-Line interior package and an upgraded MMI experience plus infotainment system.
