Highlights

Mercedes-Benz has started working on the 2017 version of the E-Class cabriolet and the car was recently spotted testing draped in full camouflage. This is the first time that a prototype of the car has been spied and it looks like there will be some minor design changes and style upgrades to the new model. The car is expected to break cover sometime next year and there is a strong possibility that it will reach our shores as well, but we do not expect anything before 2017-18 fiscal.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is expected to share its design and style cues with the E-Class Coupe to give it a more dynamic appearance. Although, the prototype has been heavily camouflaged and this makes it difficult to confirm anything right now. With that said, we expect the car to pick up some prominent features from the Coupe version like - a single bar grille, dynamic body work, and similar Multi-Beam headlamps and LED tail lamps.

Although there is nothing right now to show how the interiors of the new E-Class Cabriolet will be, we expect it to be similar to the older model with some new features picked up from the latest generation E-Class sedan. It is given that the new cabin will feature higher quality materials as well as a modern design. There are even speculations that the cabriolet will get a new steering wheel as well with touch-sensitive control buttons and a digital instrument cluster with two 12.3-inch displays.

Coming to the powertrain options, it is said that the new E-Class cabriolet will share its engine line-up with the 2017 E-Class sedan that offers a variety of different powertrains including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor along with few diesel engine options as well. That said, the India-bound model is expected to use the same 3.0-litre, V6, twin-turbocharged engine that powers the outgoing E-Class cabriolet. The engine is capable of churning out 333bhp and develops 480Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are currently handled by a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox.
