Highlights

  • Polestar revealed its very own performance oriented electric car
  • The new range of Polestar electric cars will be a standalone product
  • Volvo bought Polestar in 2015

In June this year, Geely-owned automaker Volvo Cars made its Polestar Performance business a standalone brand within the group that will focus more on electric cars. Polestar, bought by Volvo in 2015, was to produce its own-brand of vehicles while continuing to deliver high-performance upgrades to the Volvo range. However, the day of reckoning seems to be closer, as Polestar, in an encrypted post on its Instagram account, revealed its very own performance oriented electric car. The date for the launch is set for this month, on October 17.

The new range of Polestar electric cars will be a standalone product from the company and will not carry the Volvo badging. However, going by the image, the new electric car from polestar has strong resemblance to Volvo Concept Coupe. Inspired by P1800, the Volvo Concept Coupe made its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. As mentioned earlier, while the new Polestar range will not carry the Volvo badge, it will get all the features from Volvo.

Talking about the design of the new Polestar EV, the company has not revealed any more details. But, going by the teaser image, it is possible that it could be based on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture, which underpins the Volvo V90, V90 Cross Country and Volvo S90.

At the heart of this Polestar EV is said to be a plug-in hybrid setup with an electric drive system. It could have the output of more than 591 bhp. However, it is uncertain if the teased image is a production ready model or just a concept. Only time will tell.
