Highlights

Home-grown auto maker, Tata Motors today officially launched a new powerful variant of the Safari Storme VX in India. The SUV now comes with a 2.2-litre VARICOR 400 engine with increased power and torque along with an all new gearbox. Tata is offering the SUV with both 4X2 and 4X4 options and has priced it at Rs. 13.25 Lakh and Rs. 14.59 Lakh respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).

Essentially the diesel motor is the same VARICOR engine that powered the older variant, only now it has been tuned to produce an increased power of 154 bhp and a peak torque of 400 Nm, hence the VARICOR 400 tag. The engine now comes mated to an all new six-speed manual gearbox, instead of the older five-speed unit, along with both 4X2 and 4X4 drive options and ESOF (Electronic Shift on-Fly). The new Tata Safari Storme VX is a refined vehicle, delivering a performance of 0 - 100 km/hr in less than 13 seconds.

What is to be noted here is that Tata is offering this new engine only with the range-topping VX variant, while the lower variants will continue to be powered by the older VARICOR engine. The range is available in four variants VX, EX and LX in five classy colours - Arctic Silver, Urban Bronze, Pearl White, Astern Black and Arctic White. The Safari Storme will also be offered with a warranty of 3 years or 100,000 kms, whichever is earlier, extendable upto 4 years or 150,000 kms.

In terms of design and looks, the new Tata Safari Storme VX remains all the same with hardly any changes to speak off. The only new addition to the new Tata Safari Storme is the new Charcoal Grey and Ocean Grey colours for the grille and some minor tweaks made to the roof rails. Rest the SUV comes with the same set of wraparound headlamps, chrome slat upfront diamond patterned grille design and small round fog lamps.

    Safari Storme Interiors

The interior of the SUV, on the other hand, remains unchanged and offers the same Java Black colour theme with silver accents on the dashboard and door handles. The new Tata Safari Storme has also been updated with a newly integrated CONNECTNEXT Infotainment System by Harman, along with Tata Motors' new Signature Multi-Functional Steering Wheel, with integrated controls for added driver convenience.

As for the safety features the new top-of-the-line Tata Safari Storme offers crumple zones, side intrusion beams on all four doors, with Dual SRS airbags and a collapsible steering column, with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) for reassuring vehicle control. In addition, there are features like the inertia switch and an auto engine immobilizer. In an exigency, the inertia switch automatically cuts off the fuel supply to the engine, unlocks all the doors and also switches on the hazard warning lights, warning other road users.
