Volkswagen Tera SUV Bags Five Stars In Latin NCAP Crash Tests

The Volkswagen Tera has been awarded five stars in the Latin NCAP crash tests. The Tera was introduced in March 2025 and is currently on sale in Brazil. The subcompact SUV scored 89.88 per cent for adult occupant protection, and 87.25 per cent for child occupant protection. The vehicle also received scores of 75.77 per cent in pedestrian protection and vulnerable road users and 84.76 per cent in safety assist.

In the side impact tests, the head, abdomen and pelvis of the occupant showed good protection
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the driver and passenger's head, neck, and knees were well protected. Chest protection for the driver was rated marginal, while that of the passenger was rated good. Protection for both the driver's and passenger's tibias was only rated adequate. In the side pole impact and side deformable barrier tests, protection to the occupant's chest was rated adequate and marginal respectively, while the head, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection. The bodyshell was also rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings.

When it came to child protection, the reports noted that the Tera showed average to good levels in the dynamic tests. The scores for the car were 21.75/24 (Dynamic score), 12/12 (installation score), and 9/13 (vehicle assessment score). It also stated that the child dummy, installed rearward facing using ISOFIX anchorages and support leg, was capable of preventing head exposure offering full protection to the head with limited chest protection.

While Volkswagen previously said it would rather stay out of the sub-4m SUV market, it has reportedly made a U-turn on that stance, and is understood to be readying a new entry-level SUV for India that is due in the coming years.
