Highlights

  • A car has been spotted on the German roads which is a VW Van
  • Many believe it to be the incoming ID Buzz electric van
  • It was even undergoing brake tests which could be for regenerative brakes

A spy video has emerged which claims the subject in question to be the new Volkswagen ID Buzz, the long-awaited electric avatar of the VW Buzz van. While photos of the van had been leaked before, there was a school of thought that believed them to be photoshopped. Now, there is a video of the same with the vehicle driving on public roads. The issue here is that it looks nothing like the nostalgia-inducing prototype that Volkswagen had unveiled a couple of years ago. This prototype which is on the road is like a typical van - big, boxy, and it was in white which is at odds with the psychedelic colour scheme of the original ID Buzz concept.

It also has an odd grille - many would describe it as overly aggressive or modern. And functionally, it seems to be fake as electric cars don't need the added cooling at the front. Likely, it is just made out of plastic though it may have some holes for ventilation something that can be handy for electric vehicles which need to cool down the battery, though nothing like something needed for a radiator.

There is also limited camouflaging that covers the VW logo, which is strange as automakers put more elaborate camouflaging on the vehicles with patterns on cars that aren't announced or final. There is a sign on the back that indicates braking test in German - probably for it running regenerative braking tests.

On the back row, it doesn't have passenger windows which could mean that Volkswagen is leaning it towards being a cargo van? That wouldn't be strange because Volkswagen did reveal a Buzz Cargo concept as well.

Volkswagen originally claimed that the concept vehicle would come with an all-wheel-drive system with 364 bhp, a 111 kWh battery and a range of 432 kilometres. Currently, of course, since it is not an official product, we don't know the official specs.
