Volkswagen India to Launch 4 Products in 15 Months

A total of 4 launches have been scheduled for India and Volkswagen is very open about what it's getting here. We list out the four cars that you'll soon see plying the streets in India.
Highlights
Volkswagen unveiled its made-in-India, made-for India car. It's a sub-compact sedan and we've been waiting for it for a long time. It's called the Volkswagen Ameo and the car will kick-start a spree of launches in the Indian market. A total of 4 launches have been scheduled for India and Volkswagen is very open about what it's getting here. We list out the four cars that you'll soon see plying the streets in India.
1. Ameo 
The Ameo is the company's first sub-compact sedan and the biggest highlight of the car is the fact that Volkswagen has designed the car for the Indian market and will be manufactured here in the company's Chankan plant. the Volkswagen Ameo is based on the carmaker's popular hatchback Polo and shares some of its key design and style cues. The front end of the car might look a little identical to the Polo but, the Ameo gets new headlamps, sporty front bumper, horizontal fog lamps, wide air dam and some considerable chrome detailing. It shares some similarities with the Vento too especially when it comes to the tail lamps. The Ameo will be launched in the second half of 2016 but the company hints that it could come a bit earlier.
2. Passat GTE 
The German car manufacturer has set its eyes on the luxury sedan segment but this time around it's going to be a little different, because it's going to be a hybrid. And the growing market for luxury hybrids is something that has caught its eye. At this year's Auto Expo, Volkswagen India will be showcasing its luxury plug-in hybrid, the Volkswagen Passat GTE. The cars design is same as the standard Volkswagen Passat but under the hood car will comes with a 1.4-litre TSI engine combined with an electric motor that collectively churns out 215bhp and has a driving range of 1000 km.
3. Polo GTI 
Yes a more powerful version of the Polo is coming and its the GTI and we've already told you that. The car will be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo and will be launched later this year. This will clearly be the hottest hatch to ever make its way to India. Currently among the most popular hot hatches in the world, the Volkswagen Polo GTI has been designed to suit the requirements of automotive enthusiasts. Its stylish and compact looks coupled with its turbocharged petrol engine has earned the Polo GTI a reputation for being among the most powerful, dynamic and thrilling carline in its class. Taking cues from Volkswagen's racing pedigree, under the hood, the Volkswagen Polo GTI comes with a larger, more powerful 1.8 litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine churning out 190bhp and develops 250 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to both a manual transmission as well as DSG unit. With 250 kmph of top speed, the Polo GTI can do a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 6.7 seconds.
4. Tiguan SUV 
After years of wait, Volkswagen is finally bringing the Tiguan to India. Based on the MQB platform, the new Tiguan is 60 mm longer and 30 mm wider and sits 33mm lower than its predecessor. Volkswagen has put it on a diet too and it now weighs 50kg less than before. The wheelbase too has been increased by 77 mm to 2681 mm and so there's more space on the inside. The car will make its way to the Indian markets next year and we expect it to come with only the diesel powertrain. The car will take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.
When asked if a compact SUV was on the cards and indeed we were referring to the Taigun, the folks from Volkswagen said that it will see how well the Tiguan is received in the country and only then move on to making plans to bring the compact SUV to India.
