Maruti Suzuki's CNG Cars Gaining Popularity; Record 23% Growth

The country's biggest carmaker - Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) - witnessed a growth of 23 per cent in the sales of its factory-fitted CNG vehicles in 2014-15 fiscal at 62,996 units. The company sold a total of 51,215 such units in FY14.
The company released a statement that said, "The contribution of CNG vehicles to total sales increased to 5.4 per cent from 4.9 per cent in FY 2013-14."
In FY15, Maruti recorded a growth of 11.9 per cent in its sales - its highest ever sales at 12,92,415 units - from 11,55,041 units in the previous fiscal. Furthermore, at 11,70,702 units, MSI's domestic sales also increased by 11.1 per cent in FY15 as compared to the previous fiscal year's 10,53,689 units.
The company said that about 50 per cent sales of Wagon R, Eeco and Ertiga are accounted for by the CNG variants in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, thanks to the distribution infrastructure and availability of CNG for automobiles.
Maruti Suzuki has a total of 6 CNG+Petrol models in its line-up i.e. the Alto, Alto K-10, Celerio, Wagon R, Eeco and Ertiga.
