2026 BMW XM Unveiled: 644 Bhp V8 Trim Axed

BMW has pulled the wraps off the updated XM ahead of its public debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As part of this model year update, the mid-spec 644 bhp V8 on the XM variant has been deleted and going forward, the high-output XM Label will be the sole V8 variant available alongside the entry-level XM 50e. Nothing significant has changed regarding exterior and interior, except for a few new colour schemes.

The range-topping XM Label continues to be the brand’s most powerful M model to date. It features a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain that punches out 737 bhp and 1,000 Nm of torque. This setup enables the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph, extendable to 290 kmph with the optional M Driver’s Package. The entry-level XM 50e, positioned below the Label variant, is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six plug-in hybrid setup that makes 469 bhp and 700 Nm of torque.

Beyond the restructured lineup, BMW has introduced a few updates to the XM. Notably, the plug-in hybrid system now supports faster AC charging, with capacity increased from 7.4 kW to 11 kW. Though BMW hasn’t released specific charging time figures, the upgrade is expected to reduce recharging durations for the SUV’s 26-kWh battery. 

The new XM will come along with some additional exterior finishes, including the BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic. Wheel options now include 23-inch units available in black, while 22-inch versions are offered as standard. The signature M kidney grille can also be specified in high-gloss black for a more aggressive look.

Lastly, the interior. BMW has expanded options with three new leather themes. These include Night Blue Merino leather with accents, Black Merino leather paired with Vintage Coffee Brown surfaces, and a Silverstone Merino leather combination with black interior trim. Seat cushions now match the chosen leather colour as standard across all BMW Individual interior packages. 

BMW offers the XM in India exclusively in a single 4.4-litre 644 bhp variant, priced at Rs 2.60 crore ex-showroom, before options kick in. Since this trim has been discontinued globally, we expect the new MY26 model to arrive here towards the end of this year.
