Highlights

  • Honda CB200X launched in India; New entry-level crossover from Honda
  • Priced at Rs. 144,500 (Ex-showroom)
  • Gets the same engine, chassis at the Honda Hornet 2.0

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India took the wraps off its new entry-level crossover, the Honda CB200X. It is not a hard-core off-road motorcycle or a dual-sport bike, like the Hero Xpulse 200, but is primarily a commuter bike, with tall stance, upright riding position, ADV-esque design and dual-sport block pattern tyres. Prices start at Rs. 144,500 (ex-showroom). In India, it will go up against the Hero Xpulse, since that is the only motorcycle in the segment, having similar specifications and pricing. Deliveries of the motorcycle will begin in September 2021. Bookings for the motorcycle have begun as well.

Like we said earlier, the Honda CB200X gets few design elements borrowed from adventure bikes, such as the half-fairing and the small windscreen. There is a plastic engine bash-plate, standard knuckle guards on the handlebar and stepped seats. It gets a 184 cc single-cylinder engine, putting out 17 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 16.1 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm and is paired to a 5-speed gearbox. It is the same unit as the one offered on Honda Hornet 2.0. The engine gets Honda's programmed fuel injection with 8 on-board sensors which constantly inject optimum fuel and air mixture for better efficiency and performance. Features include a single-channel ABS, a negative LCD instrument console along with a start-stop switch, hazard lamps, full LED lighting and petal disc brakes up front and at the rear.

The chassis is the same unit as the Honda Hornet 2.0's but just could feature suspension with slightly more travel, as well as a standard engine bash plate. But to keep costs competitive, chassis, suspension and cycle parts could be exact same specifications as the Honda Hornet 2.0. The motorcycle gets USD fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Considering the CB200X gets 167 mm ground clearance, it should be enough for minor 'soft-roading' duties that the new bike will be designed to take on, together with the block pattern tyres. With a kerb weight of 147 kg, it should offer a decent package.
